Red Hill Truffles

Truffle hunting at Red Hill Truffles is an exciting food adventure in a delightful rustic setting. The family farm has been producing Périgord black truffles since 2010, while summer truffles – a lighter, creamier version of the black truffle – have been harvested since 2022.

The treasured fungi are hidden beneath oak and hazelnut trees surrounded by native bush and only detected by clever, specially trained dogs. Guests walk the avenues of trees with the dogs and a guide who’s an expert in the world of truffles.

Once a truffle has been detected, guests have the opportunity to kneel on the ground with a cushion, put their nose to the earth and breathe in the pungent aroma before carefully digging it out. Freshly harvested truffles are placed in a trug – a basket used to carry fresh produce – to take back to the welcoming warmth of the pavilion, an old hay shed restored with wood milled from the farm.

Guests are introduced to the fascinating history of truffles before a hunt begins and learn more as the adventure unfolds, including how to clean and prepare them, and of course how best to enjoy them.

Homemade wood-fired pizza served with truffles from the morning’s hunt, which guests can shave themselves, is a feature of the truffle tastes on offer with a hunt. Other truffle-hunting and dining options are available in conjunction with local restaurant partners.

Visitors and hunt guests are also able to purchase fresh truffles when in season, along with locally prepared truffle products including butter, salt, honey, mustard, aioli and mushroom paste, from the farm gate.

Winter truffle hunts are held from June to August and summer truffle hunts from December to February. Book public and private hunts at
