The Rocks Mornington

The Rocks is more than a restaurant; it's a seaside haven that captures the very essence of Mornington’s laid-back coastal charm. Nestled right on the water’s edge at Mornington Marina, this elegant yet relaxed venue offers some of the finest and freshest seafood the Mornington Peninsula has to offer, served alongside uninterrupted views of Port Phillip. Whether you’re planning a leisurely lunch, a romantic sunset dinner or a special celebration, The Rocks is the place to be.

For more than two decades, The Rocks has been a beloved staple for locals and an absolute must-visit for anyone exploring the Peninsula for the first time. It’s the kind of spot where you’ll find both regulars who can’t stay away and tourists marvelling at the stunning setting while savouring dishes that highlight the treasures of the sea. Owner and Rocks founder  Robert De Santis, a second-generation restaurateur and the owner of the local gem D.O.C Gastronomia, along with his wife Lisa and business partner Salvatore, are the passionate force behind this culinary institution. Robert describes The Rocks as “a refined Mediterranean-inspired dining experience, with a key focus on fresh coastal fare”.  As he puts it: “Our mission is to showcase Australian sustainably sourced seafood and present it alongside locally produced ingredients.” And boy, does it deliver.

From the moment you step inside, the décor strikes a perfect balance between breezy, open-air freshness and charm. Massive windows let natural light flood the space, giving diners the chance to enjoy views of the bay whether seated indoors, on the outdoor deck or sipping a cocktail at the bar. The calming atmosphere instantly puts you in holiday mode no matter the occasion.

The menu is a true celebration of the sea, brimming with freshly sourced seafood, with a sea-to-plate philosophy and daily catches just metres away from the kitchen. Fresh mussels, collected from boats right outside The Rocks at the marina, are served in tantalising options including tomato and chilli, or white wine, garlic and parsley. Crowd favourites include spaghetti fruitti di mare, oysters, calamari, whole fish, and soft-shell crab sliders.  And the restaurant’s most popular dish, fish and chips, is a delicious take on a classic, with flavours that leave you coming back for more.

Can’t decide? The chefs have created two ‘feed me’ menus, making sure diners can experience the full spectrum of what is on offer. And if seafood isn’t your thing, the menu also has vibrant salads, fresh vegetables, and hearty and popular dishes including slow-cooked lamb and perfectly grilled ribeye steak.

To elevate the experience even further, pair your meal and select from the hand-curated menu of wines, beers and spirits from producers across the Peninsula and beyond.  In the mood for a cocktail or a G & T? There are plenty of options, such as the limoncello spritz, a crowd-pleaser that’s not to be missed.

Planning a special event? The Rocks, in partnership with the Mornington Yacht Club, offers an unforgettable event space featuring a massive balcony with views stretching across the bay. The Rocks creates bespoke events paired with its world-class menu for a truly memorable occasion.

Keep an eye on social media for fun and seasonal events such as Bottomless Mussels and What’s Live from the Tank, where you can enjoy menu collaborations and fresh catches.

The Rocks isn’t just a restaurant; it’s an experience. From the coastal charm to the incredible cuisine and breathtaking views, it’s a must-visit whether you’re a local or just passing through.
