Laneway Espresso

Whether you’re a local stopping in for your morning brew or a visitor from the city settling in for lunch by the bay, Laneway Espresso feels like home. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with warmth and friendliness. With 10 years of exceptional service, the staff at Laneway Espresso make you feel right at home, guiding you to your table with care.

Owner Jim has successfully brought Melbourne’s cool, laid-back coffee and brunch culture to the Mornington Peninsula. Nestled in Dromana and overlooking the bay, Laneway Espresso is a quirky space filled with charm and character. The seating is as eclectic as the atmosphere, with vintage tables, chairs and collectables from different eras scattered throughout. Many items, donated by regulars or chosen by Jim himself, are for sale, adding to the café’s treasure-trove feel.

Laneway Espresso is more than just a café; it’s a community hub, a place where people connect. “Our customers don’t just see this as a café,” says Jim. “For them, it’s a home away from home.”

The upstairs area has been transformed into a cosy, multi-use space. Whether you’re catching up with friends at a large dining table or enjoying a quiet coffee by the window with a bay view, the peaceful vibe and natural light make it the perfect spot to relax or work. It’s become a popular place for people to bring their laptops and stay for hours, blending work with comfort.

For families, Laneway Espresso offers two dedicated spaces for kids and parents to enjoy together. The menu, inspired by Jim’s children, includes fun kid-friendly options such as the ever-popular fairy bread, making it a hit for children and adults alike.

The well-curated menu offers a variety of classic dishes, including an all-day breakfast with such favourites as waffles, pancakes, Turkish poached eggs, and chilli scramble. Guests can also build their own breakfast from a list of fresh ingredients. As brunch rolls into lunch, offerings including chicken sliders, the club sandwich, salmon rosti and corn fritters delight. Soup of the day, served with a toastie, adds a special touch. Jim’s philosophy is simple: “We do simple food well.” Regulars eagerly anticipate the weekly specials.

Coffee is a serious business at Laneway Espresso.  The baristas are at the ready to deliver full-bodied coffees that keep the customers coming back.  Laneway’s signature Iced Mont Blanc is a must-try, and coffee beans are available for purchase to enjoy at home.

For those on the go, takeaway drinks and food are available at the front counter. It’s hard to resist the tempting display of homemade continental cakes baked by Jim’s dad, Bill, and showcased under glass domes.

Since opening the café in 2015, Jim, his family and his team have poured their hearts into creating an experience unlike any other. Their passion and personal touches make every visit to Laneway Espresso a memorable one. With great food, welcoming staff and a cosy atmosphere, one visit simply isn’t enough to take it all in; you’ll find yourself coming back for more.
