Martha's Table

Martha’s Table is a place where appearances are top-notch, but the real charm lies in the warm and inviting atmosphere that greets you upon entry.  Whether you are enjoying a relaxed Sunday brunch with family, a romantic dinner for two or simply grabbing a coffee to go, Martha’s Table offers a welcoming and friendly experience.

Located with stunning views of Martha’s Cove Marina, Martha’s Table offers four distinct spaces for guests to enjoy.  At the heart is the Martha’s Table Restaurant & Terrace, where the menu, inspired by Mediterranean flavours, evolves with the seasons.  A favourite among guests is the charcoal and wood-fired grill, delivering earthy, authentic flavours from local ingredients.  The housemade pasta is a beloved staple, enjoyed by both locals and newcomers alike.

Arthur’s Bar, situated at the restaurant's entrance, also offers scenic views of Mount Martha.  With a variety of local and international beers, wines, spirits and cocktails, it is the ideal spot for a relaxed drink.

Martha’s Café, with its open windows and glass doors, is a light-filled space with stunning views of the greenery and the cove. Serving an all-day menu from breakfast to lunch, the café is a popular spot for casual meals, complemented by local refreshments and Commonfolk Coffee.

Next to the café is Martha’s Cellar. The emphasis here is on a selection of wines that span local vineyards as well as international options. Customers can either purchase bottles to take home or settle in at the high tables in the cellar to enjoy a glass or two. It is the perfect stop for wine-lovers who appreciate a well-curated selection.

A stand-out feature at Martha’s Table is the continuous service, offering food and drinks throughout the day and into the evening without breaks. The staff, many of whom have been part of the team for years, add a personal and familiar touch to the experience. Head chef Andrew Perry, a local himself, has been leading the kitchen for more than four years. He embraces a food philosophy that emphasises local, seasonal and ethically sourced ingredients.

Martha’s Table is not just a dining destination; it is a hub of vibrant activity with a calendar full of exciting events. From seasonal menus that highlight fresh, local produce to live music nights that create the perfect ambience, there is always something happening. Special occasions, happy hours, Sunday High Tea and the popular Locals’ Night every Wednesday deliver unique dining experiences that are excellent value.

In addition to regular dining, Martha’s Table is available for private functions, providing a customisable venue for special events and celebrations. Whether you are stopping by for a nice meal or planning a big event, Martha’s Table promises a memorable experience.

What’s your role and responsibilities?

As the general manager of food and beverage at Balmain Group, I oversee the operations of our hospitality venues across various states. My responsibilities include ensuring that each venue maintains high standards of service and quality, managing budgets, and driving profitability. I also focus on staff training and development, creating unique guest experiences, and implementing strategies to enhance our food and beverage offerings.

What’s most rewarding about your position?

The opportunity to travel between states and interact with a diverse range of guests and colleagues. This not only allows me to understand different market needs and preferences but also helps in creating tailored experiences that resonate with our clientele. Building relationships and seeing the positive impact of our efforts on guest satisfaction is incredibly fulfilling.

What are some of the key challenges you face in your role?

Balancing high service standards with profitability. Ensuring that each venue delivers exceptional guest experiences while managing costs and maintaining profitability requires constant attention and adaptability. Additionally, managing a diverse team and aligning their efforts with the company’s goals can be challenging, but it’s also what makes the role dynamic and engaging.

How do you manage to keep up with the fast-paced nature of the hospitality industry?

Staying organised and being proactive are crucial. I prioritise tasks, delegate responsibilities effectively, and keep open lines of communication with my team. Regularly reviewing performance metrics and staying updated with industry trends also helps in making informed decisions. Flexibility and the ability to adapt quickly to changes are essential to thrive in this fast-paced environment.

What makes Martha’s Table so special?

As part of the broader Martha Cove precinct, which is managed by the Balmain Group, Martha’s Table is poised to be a central feature in an evolving area.  Future developments, including additional restaurants and shops, promise to enhance the vibrancy of the marina, making it a focal point for both residents and visitors.  In essence, Martha’s Table is more than just a place to eat; it’s a destination where natural beauty, culinary excellence and community spirit come together, offering an unparalleled experience on the Mornington Peninsula.
