Le Bouchon

Stepping into Le Bouchon in Balnarring is like crossing a threshold that transports you to an elegant and unpretentious bistro in France. For more than a decade this dining institution has been rightfully celebrated not just for its exquisite cuisine but also for its impeccable design and inviting ambience.

On entering, guests are greeted by soft, filtered light through brass-framed windows illuminating the sophisticated yet cosy space. Dark bentwood chairs and bare wooden tables sit on white and black hexagonal tiles, while the marble bar, adorned with bottles of Forget-Brimont on ice, adds a touch of sophistication.

Owner Stephane Saleres has meticulously crafted a space that feels both upscale and comfortable. "I wanted a space where everyone was welcome," he said, and this ethos is evident in every detail.

Le Bouchon's charming interior perfectly complements its authentic menu. Each dish reflects the artistry of chef de cuisine Antoine Corre. Hailing from Brittany on the coast of France, Antoine’s expertise with seafood in particular is apparent. You can also find such favourites as French onion soup and beef bourguignon. The wine list is thoughtfully curated to offer something for every palate and occasion.

This blend of refined décor, genuine hospitality and exceptional cuisine ensures that Le Bouchon is a favourite among those seeking an authentic slice of France on the Mornington Peninsula.
