Ouest France

Hailed by The Age last year as serving one of the best steak frites in Melbourne, every dish is a stand-out at Ouest France, Mornington’s own authentic French-style bistro.

Bringing the taste of Brittany to the Peninsula, owner-chef Cesar Henry has recreated the authentic dining experience of his birthplace, famous for its warm hospitality and exceptional food and wine.

Whether you’re dipping into French fare for the first time or you’re experienced in French cuisine, Ouest France is the ideal choice. The menu accommodates all tastes, from the traditional to the adventurous. Alongside the famous steak, popular selections include beef cheek bourguignon, French onion soup, and scallops Brittany-style with shallots, cream sauce, bread crumbs and parsley. For dessert, favourites include crème brulee, apple crepe, and the bistro’s specialty: salted caramel flambé with calvados (apple brandy).

The bistro setting perfectly captures the essence of France. Guests seated indoors enjoy the cosiness and charm of the distinctly rustic, coastal French décor, with all 16 tables in easy reach of the kitchen and bar. For those wanting to take in the sunset, there are also 16 tables in the gazebo out front. The entire bistro can be booked for special occasions where guest numbers exceed 30.

While there is an option to BYO most nights, the opportunity to try one of the delicious French wines on the drinks list should not be missed, adding to the authenticity of the experience.

For a taste of France, say “Oui Oui” to Ouest France.
